The Project
An active couple with three young kids came to Everything Home looking to remodel a home that didn’t match their lifestyle. The outdated design and formal spaces had to go. Instead, they needed function, modern style, and a brand-new guest bedroom on the main floor to accommodate grandparents. See how our expert design-build services transformed their home and improved their lives.
The Process
In many remodels, walls are removed to open up a space. In other projects like this one, you must add walls to meet unique requirements. Whatever the case, the renovation should be intentional, and this one hit the mark with everything the client wanted. An unused formal dining room and downstairs laundry were turned into a guest bedroom. A larger, more usable laundry was created upstairs. Here are some additional highlights:
- A new guest bedroom with a nook for a dresser and TV offers access to a bathroom with functional grab bars and stylish hexagonal tile running up the shower walls. Pocket doors allow this main-floor bath to be accessible to all when guests aren’t present.
- An unused living room came to life with a warm and inviting fireplace and entertainment area. Black walls add dramatic contrast to a towering white fireplace surround, white trim, and a lighter wood floor. Cozy furnishings are smartly situated to foster conversation. It’s the perfect spot to relax or enjoy a game with family.
- The laundry room is essential for a family of five. This functional yet stylish space features subway tile on the walls, pipe details on shelf supports, a funky star pattern on the floor, blue cabinetry, and a large countertop for folding. This fun getaway features two washers and dryers, a TV, and heated flooring.
- What was an unusual, formal foyer with a nesting drywall feature became a cool accent wall and functional bench where kids can take off and store shoes.
- The former main-floor powder room became a much-needed pantry with a coffee station and plenty of storage space.
- Warm caramel-colored tones throughout the home help bring the design together. Mixed metal elements in black and gold add intrigue and style to the rooms.
When adding walls, there’s always a worry about making a home feel small. Due to the size of this Carmel house, this common concern never materialized. Instead, the remodel checked all the boxes for this busy family.
The Results
The functional, cool, and cozy design was a big hit for the family. The new guest room was just what they wanted, and having a larger laundry room and dedicated pantry made their lives easier. Their outdated home was converted into a space where all rooms have purpose and style.
