We’ve been busy planning and prepping for our 7th Home-A-Rama build! This year’s show runs late-Sept through early October, which means it is currently construction time. We partnered with Old Town Design Group again to create another stunning luxury home in Indy’s first wellness lifestyle community (and home to Home-A-Rama 2021!), Aberdeen, in Bargersville, Indiana.
With so much excitement going on at the construction site, it is the perfect time to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the life of luxury we are creating in this year’s build!
Vision and Vibe
Elegant but casual, with low-country coastal vibes, sums up our design vision for our Home-A-Rama Aberdeen house in Bargersville. Light, bright, and airy tones set the stage for southern style living influenced by soft traditional elements. The mood in this home is subtle, not overly embellished, with a relaxed neutral palette and warmth radiating from wood tones used throughout. Shared spaces and gathering places are noticeable themes in room design—with luxe family living as the focus.
We of course love every detail of this design, but here are a few of our very favorite features that we can’t wait for you to see:
The architecture of this home included cathedral ceilings in the living room which provided the perfect opportunity to include natural wood beams along the ceiling, framing the fireplace beautifully. Matching wood beams were repeated on tall flat ceilings in the adjacent kitchen for a stunning complement.
The brick clad three-story wall spanning from the lower level to the top floor makes a unique yet timeless statement, making it a real stand out.
One of the most eye-catching features in this home is also pretty simple, a white plaster tapered fireplace wall with a cast stone mantel surround. The same simple (yet stately!) style was mirrored on the range hood in the kitchen.
Soft Curve Staircase
Streamlined, soft, and elegant—the continuous iron staircase is custom crafted to give a curved handrail feel. It’s a first for us, and it is looking absolutely gorgeous.
At initial glance, you won’t see any appliances in this kitchen. That’s because we hid them! We’ve cleverly designed this luxe kitchen to conceal the working kitchen within, without sacrificing function.
It’s hard to say, but this may be our favorite, favorite feature! We’re calling it the “conversation pit”, a large sunken lounge area in the finished basement. It’s super comfy with a custom sofa designed into the ledge of a step-down stair system, positioning the back of the sofa at the main basement floor level. This gathering spot is likely to be the hub of get togethers with a cozy fireplace to frame the hangout space.
Master Bath Alcove
We dreamed up a secluded master bath alcove in this Bargersville home, with custom window details, to create a spa-like space to soak and relax in privacy—and it is becoming a beautiful reality in this home!
Actually, it may be a tie between favorite features in this house because the “cigar porch” that we integrated into this design is also fabulous. With two covered porches off of the back of this home, we opted to dedicate one to more traditional lounging (off of the living room) and the other to service (off of the kitchen). The service porch zone, affectionately called the cigar porch, is a place to grill, pull up to the window bar, eat dinner, or even smoke a cigar.
Aberdeen community has been “carefully crafted to cultivate a stronger connection to people and nature, as well as encourage a more active lifestyle”. From sport courts to nature trails, and gathering spots to green spaces, Aberdeen is an active community with individual well being in mind.
Additionally, “agrihood” areas provide residents with farm-to-table amenities like direct access to farm goods grown on the neighborhood working farm, and access to garden plots for those interested in hands-on opportunities to grow their own fruits, vegetables and herbs. Regular events and activities will provide fun opportunities to meet and be with neighbors—think food truck Fridays, mini-concerts, fitness classes and kids programs!
Home-A-Rama Aberdeen is open to the public September 16-19, 23-26, and September 30-October 3, 2021. You can purchase your tickets here starting mid to late-August. This year’s show includes luxury homes custom crafted by five of Indy’s top builders.
