The Project
An outdated home interior needed a designer’s touch to add the right blend of function and style. The owners of this Carmel house wanted to replace the railing between rooms, update the fireplace wall, upgrade the flooring, and minimize the brown that overwhelmed the space. They liked some existing stained wood elements but were otherwise open to change. See how Everything Home delivered a dramatic living room and kitchen transformation the family loved.
The Process
Adding function was a priority, but so was injecting style into a space that desperately needed it. We completely reorganized the kitchen layout to spread out the work zones. The fridge was moved to a different wall, and we replaced an unused desk with a delightful coffee station. Here are a few additional highlights:
- The railing between rooms was replaced with a half-wall featuring banquette seating on the kitchen side, which allowed us to move the kitchen table over and expand the size of the island. On the living room side, we added built-in storage to utilize previously unused space.
- A dazzling blue backsplash and distinctive range hood added drama to the kitchen.
- The cabinets next to the bay window were straightened out, and the upper ones were replaced with shelving to simplify the area.
- The kitchen was brightened with white cabinets, countertops, and light walls.
- We kept stained wood windows, doors, and trim and added a lovely kitchen island to enhance the natural feel. A new, lighter wood floor softened the look.
- We revived the living room fireplace wall with painted built-ins and a new mantel.
Now, the stunning kitchen is more functional, spacious, and brighter, flowing seamlessly into an inviting living room with new storage elements.
The Results
After we changed the layout of the kitchen and dining area, the family enjoyed more space for daily living and entertaining. They loved how the lighter cabinets, counters, and flooring coexisted beautifully with the stained wood decor. The blue-patterned backsplash behind the coffee station and cooking area was a big hit.
