The goal for this project was to create a cozy, inviting kitchen that stands out from the rest and to add a cohesive appeal so the spaces flow seamlessly into each other. Our clients wanted to change their existing cabinets and floor to match the rest of their house. They desired a warm feel with a thoughtful mix of textures and materials, improved functionality, and a personality-driven space that was completely unique.
They particularly admired natural stone and desired a more prominent island that they could display like a piece of art. So we designed a deep navy island centerpiece with a beautiful quartzite slab. The addition of handsome two-tone color-blocked cabinets and plenty of light-colored counters and backsplashes prevent the large kitchen from feeling dark. The separation of the work zones and the strategic positioning of the island seating around three sides effectively prevents crowding and optimizes workflow. A larger window at the sink was installed to enhance the natural light and picturesque view of their stunning backyard. Additionally, a cozy coffee nook in front of the lower windows allows them to fully enjoy their surroundings.
The flooring decision was a significant challenge. Considering that the rest of the main floor featured an exotic hardwood that was too bright and shiny, we decided to match the species and refinish everything with a wash that imbued a more neutral yet rich color. Our clients absolutely adore their new Carmel kitchen remodel, which perfectly embodies their unique vision and requirements.
