Bring Empty Nest Sophistication To A Greenwood Remodel

The Project

After years of living a busy family life, a couple finally found time to remodel and revive their Greenwood home. With their kids now adults and out of the house, they were eager to reclaim the interior and make it more inviting and conducive to entertaining. The spaces for the redesign included a connected living room and den on the main level and a walk-out basement.

The Process

Everything Home needed to find a way to make the main-floor rooms with low ceilings and limited square footage feel larger and brighter. A newer green sofa the client wanted to keep helped serve as inspiration. The basement, a play area for years, longed to be updated into a comfy gathering place for friends and family. Here’s how Everything Home brought new life to these areas.

      • A built-in bookcase surrounding and highlighting the sofa makes the den feel more like a library. At the base of the bookcase, file cabinets function as both storage and end tables. Gold light fixtures draw attention to a cherished photo above the sofa.
      • What was once a dark, heavy-feeling fireplace has been brightened through whitewashing. Fun cabinets with legs diminish the bulky feel and bring a curved element next to the fireplace. New furniture, decor, and lighting give the living room a fresh, updated look.
      • A simplified desk with a large work surface opens up the corner of the den. Some wood elements have paint, while others, like the French doors and trim, are kept in the original stain to flow with the rest of the house.
      • Built-ins around the basement fireplace and theater area offer a balanced, symmetrical feel. A darker-painted fireplace contrasts beautifully with the white built-ins and lighter floor.
      • Fun and comfy seating in front of the fireplace promotes conversation and relaxation. Stained wood elements, neutral colors, and splashes of color help connect the basement to the main floor.
      • There is a stunning bar area with seating on the inside so guests can face outward and enjoy games on the television. A wealth of cabinetry in the bar and laundry room adds function and style.

The basement, once a large storage area with a sectional, is now the perfect place for entertaining. It’s a grown-up, cool space that blends well with the redesigned den and living room upstairs.
